Evaluation of Nasal Airway Resistance Before and After Septal and Turbinate Surgery Using Acoustic Rhinometry

Abstract
We used acoustic rhinometry to evaluate the effectiveness of surgery on nasal septum and turbinate. Twenty two patients with septal deviation and/or inferior turbiate hypertrophy were examined preoperatively and preoperatively by acoustic
rhinometry.
Six parameters were measured and evaluated statistically. Postoperatively the area at the conchal notch, the area at 4.0cm from the norstril, nasal volume increased significantly.
These results suggest that the area at the conchal notch, the area at 4.0cm from the nostril, nasal volume could be useful parameters for the evaluation of the effectiveness for the septal and turbinate srugry.
